FIRST LEAGUE POINTS OF 2020/21 SEASON IN FRONT OF HOME FANS
NAUGHTON, BELCHER AND COMMINS ON THE SCORESHEET FOR SHEEPY ROAD CLUB
Atherstone Town CFC 3 Chelmsley Town 0
GOAL-HUNGRY Atherstone CFC got their league season up and running – at the second attempt. Their first competitive outing in front of home fans saw them win the "battle of the towns" – comfortably despatching visitors Chelmsley 3-0. Sam Belcher scored his third goal in two games – this time from the penalty spot – and there were strikes from in-form Alex Naughton and Lewis Commins. The result – putting the disappointing season-opening 4-2 loss behind them – at Sheepy Road was never in doubt once Naughton met an Isa Abraham cross in the 22nd minute. And before the half hour it was nearly 2-0 as Naughton forced a fine save from Chelmsley Town keeper Tom Allsopp. Allsopp came to his side's rescue again on the stroke of half-time with a fine stop from a Belcher free-kick. After the break, the Chelmsley's last line was again more than equal to a Commins effort. On the hour, Mark Williams replaced goal-scorer Naughton while Kyle Baxter made way for Tabang Dube. Adders then enjoyed their best spell of dominating the game as assistant first team coach Chris Tullin came on as a substitute for Kieron Brehon. In the 75th minute Dube was upended by Allsopp in the box and Belcher drilled him the resulting penalty.. Five minutes later Commins completed the scoring after a lightning break from man-of-the-match Abraham.
