Weather 'worry' for Wembley-dreaming Atherstone Town as club prays for waterlogged pitch to dry up for FA Vase clash

The weather could be the only certain winner of Atherstone Town's epoch-making FA Vase quarter-final clash with Consett AFC on Saturday.

Adders chairman Brian Henney told Nub News this afternoon the club is doing "everything in its power" to ensure the game against the Northern League Division One side is played .

The last eight tie – thanks to a penalty shootout victory at Worcester City FC in the last round – is scheduled for a 3pm kick-off but torrential downpours are expected for eight hours on Friday and into Saturday morning.

It is the first time the Town CFC has reached this stage of the competition and are now just two ties away from a Wembley final.

"We have all the arrangements in place but we are wholly dependent on the weather," added chairman Henney.

The Sheepy Road pitch is not match fit at the moment with another quarter final – tonight's BCFA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup game – being called off due to a waterlogged ground.

The originally-planned Midland Football Leaguer Division One derby game between Adders and Hinckley AFC has now been rearranged for Wednesday, April 22.

Mr Henney said he hoped the sunshine today and forecast tomorrow would help dry up the Mark Wester Community Stadium pitch but the forecast for later in the week is "worrying".
