Jolly chaps are being sought to fill Father Christmas' boots at Atherstone's Dobbies Garden Centre grotto.

Don't tell the children, but Great Grottos which runs the attraction, is recruiting a team of at least four Santas who will work flexible shifts covering seven days a week.

The ideal candidate will be friendly, full of festive cheer and enjoy talking to children about toys, elves, reindeer and, of course, listening to their present wish-list.

Applicants need to be men, aged 28 or over, and no experience is needed as there is a full Father Christmas training programme provided - including clever techniques and fun dialogue.

Aided by a Christmas elf, Santa will be responsible for creating a memorable visit for children, handing out presents and posing for photos.

Matthew Wise, managing director of Great Grottos, told Atherstone Nub News: "We have Santas returning year after year because they get paid to be loved.

"Many say they don't take the role because of the money, they simply adore being Santa.

"It's a wonderful experience to put on that suit and be treated like the most lovely man that walked the earth."

With more than 100 people applying for the role of Santa's helper at Atherstone Dobbies, Great Grottos is no longer advertising for elves.

Current coronavirus guidelines mean that families will not be able to get closer than 1.5m to Father Christmas and children will choose their own present.

It will be mandatory that customers over 11 years old wear a face mask.

The elf assisting Santa will also maintain a 1.5m distance and wear a face covering.

You'll find details of Atherstone Dobbies' Christmas events and attractions here and can apply for the role of a grotto Santa here.
