Twycross Zoo is launching a new fun-filled, virtual after school club so children can continue to learn about the natural world, even throughout the second lockdown.
Cementing its position as the leading voice in educating the next generation about the importance of zoos, the Midlands-based conservation charity has launched this new initiative so children can enjoy some extracurricular learning outside of school hours, keeping their brains active during the next month.
The after school sessions, which will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube at 4pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Monday 16 November to Friday 4 December, will each centre around an important topic including a range of activities, such as fun and informative animal talks at popular habitats throughout the zoo, the differences between carnivores, omnivores and herbivores and even top tips on how to make sustainable Christmas decorations from home.
Asim Krdzalic, Education Team Leader at Twycross Zoo, said: "With many after school activities on hold due to lockdown, children, and their parents, will be able to learn more about the species that share our planet, as well as have fun in our brand new after school virtual sessions.
"With or without Covid-19, our planet is still in the sixth extinction crisis and it's vital that zoos and conservation organisations can still raise awareness and provide guidance on ways we can all work together to look after our planet."
Since closing its gates for the second time on Wednesday 4 November, Twycross Zoo has launched its brand new fundraising appeal, "Believe in tomorrow" and is calling on donations from the general public. To donate to Twycross Zoo visit the donations page on their website.
