Five key issues relating to North Warwickshire – including the impact of HS2 and short cuts along country lanes – have been highlighted by those updating Warwickshire County Council's Local Transport Plan (LTP).
The current document covers the five-year period up to 2026 but is considered outdated and hard to navigate prompting an update which will be published next year.
Local authorities across the county have been asked to comment and councillors at this week's executive meeting of North Warwickshire Borough Council put forward local issues which they felt should be taken into account.
A report considered at the meeting explained: "The themes and key challenges seem to cover all of the main aspects that would be expected to be covered in a LTP.
"It would be useful to identify the key issues and challenges that affect North Warwickshire in the consultation response.
Subject to members' comments it is envisaged to support this initial work and to identify the following local issues:
- Connectivity between settlements within the borough as well as to those outside
- Funding of key infrastructure improvements such as phases 3 and 4 of the A5, and dualling of the A446- Impact of the construction of HS2
- Improvements to walking and cycling- Avoidance of rat-running on country lanes
The county council's transport portfolio holder is set to meet a cross-party group of borough councillors ahead of further details on progress and consultation of the LTP being published later this year.
