Development plans have emerged from Highways England that will see Atherstone's much-loved 'Curly Wurly' bridge over the A5 removed and replaced.
The bridge, which connects Well Spring Close and Witherley Road, is to be removed as part of maintenance work under their Strategic Road Network programme.
A steel bridge will be installed to replace the current concrete one.
Given that the works fall under this programme, planning permission is not required.
Highways England have stated that the works will begin this month as vegetation is cleared to allow access to the bridge.
Lane closures and carriageway closures will be seen on the A5 from February 15 to March 15 "for advanced works (site clearance and crossover construction)."
The bridge will then be removed and the replacement procedure commenced. Warwickshire County Council is currently advising that roadworks can be expected between Holly Lane Roundabout and Mancetter Roundabout from April 15 to September 13. These dates may be subject to change as works progress.
Roadworks will mostly be lane rather than carriageway closures.
A Highways England spokesperson has said "We are replacing the existing bridge with one that meets modern standards, ensuring it is safer and has a long lifespan so it can serve the community for many generations to come.
"The new bridge will be built close to the existing structure and when completed will provide a safe crossing point over the A5 for schoolchildren, pedestrians and cyclists alike."
