31-YEAR-OLD HELD IN CONNECTION WITH DOUBLE SEIZURE OF NARCOTICS IN THE TOWN CENTRE

A 31-year-old man is due to appear in court after allegedly biting a female police officer during a drugs search in Atherstone.

Emanuel Arang Awet was arrested after detectives stopped him in a town centre courtyard yesterday.

Plain clothes officers from Warwickshire Police Proactive CID seized drugs during his detention and also found more following a reccy of a nearby property.

During the search – part of an ongoing police operation – one of the officers was allegedly bitten, suffering a minor injury to her arm.

Mr Awet, from Birmingham, was charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply, possession of heroin with intent to supply, possession of cannabis and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was held in custody, awaiting an appearance at Coventry Magistrates Court on Friday.
