Atherstone Town Council have announced two vacancies that need to be filled, and are offering the opportunity for residents to call an election for the new councillors.

The vacancies fall in the Central Ward and in the South Ward of the parish.

The Central Ward vacancy has come after the sad passing of Cllr Lorna Dirveiks earlier this year.

The vacancy in the South Ward has come due to the resignation of Susan Allan-Stubbs.

In order for the two vacancies to be filled, ten members of the Atherstone electorate must request to call an election before 12 January - 14 working days after the notices were given.

In order to do this, electors must fill in one of the two requests to call an election documents, available for the South Ward HERE. and the Central Ward HERE.

However an election cannot be held until 6 May 2021.

This is due to the fact that the UK Government has passed the Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus) Postponement of Elections and Referendums) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 and the Coronavirus Act 2020 which means that any election called would be postponed until at least May 6, as a result of the pandemic.

If an election is not called, then the posts will be filled by co-option.

Requests to call for an election can be sent to Steve Maxey, Returning Officer, The Council House, South Street, Atherstone, Warwickshire, CV9 1DE.
