Atherstone Fire Station is looking for new on-call firefighters to join its team.

On-call firefighters are not usually based at the station they serve, but live within a five minute radius, enabling them to respond to calls quickly.

Successful applicants will receive an annual wage plus additional payments for attending drill nights and incidents.

New recruits will be expected to attend a drill night once a week.

An Atherstone Fire Station social media statement has said: "Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service are now accepting applications for members of the community to join our team as an on call firefighter.

"On call firefighters are an integral part of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service. Although not based on fire stations, they usually live or work in their local community and carry a pager, so when they get the call, they are ready to respond to any emergency."

New recruits must be aged 18 and over, be a team player, passionate about serving the community; they will receive extensive training of course.

Warwickshire County Council have said "Training is delivered in a number of modules spread out over a firefighters first three years of service – although some on-call firefighters are able to complete the programme more quickly than this."

No exact qualifications are required by applicants, but they will need to satisfy some selection tests.
