Atherstone Town's tilt for Midland Football League Division One honours fell victim to the weather today.

The club lost its race to get the Sheepy Road pitch ready for the home fixture with Heath Hayes this afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Like many local clubs in the area, the officials had to concede they couldn't beat the combined efforts of Storms Ciara and Dennis in the last fortnight.

A club spokesman told Nub News: "Unsurprisingly after all the weather we've had, today's game against Heath Hayes is off due to a waterlogged pitch."

The club – with a backlog headache that has left them with up to six games in hand on their promotion rivals – said it would arrange a new date "as soon as possible."

The next scheduled match is Wednesday night at the Mark Wester Community Stadium in a derby clash with Hinckley AFC.
