FORMER TOWN MAYOR TO SELL W C MASTERS & SON AT ASKING PRICE OF £750,000

BUSINESS HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE QUEEN VICTORIA WAS ON THE THRONE

A FAMILY-RUN Atherstone bakery – a familiar name in the town centre from more than 130-years – is for sale.

W C Masters & Son has earned an enviable reputation among local residents during its long history dating back to Victorian times, and is on the market for an asking price of £749,995.

The business – run by former town mayor Mejar Singh – was at the forefront of support for the locals during the peak of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Town and borough councillor Singh – a well-respected figure in the community – is taking a "well-earned retirement", according to the sale particulars.

Hilton Smythe, which is marketing the Long Street bakery, says: "W C Masters & Son was founded over 130 years ago and is a well-established family-run business with an impressive number of regular customers, many of whom have been using the business for many years and are known on a first name basis by the current owners who are popular and well respected members of the local community.

"The business really has been a labour of love for the current owners but this wonderful bakery is now being sold, albeit reluctantly and with a heavy heart only due to the owners' wishes to take a well-earned retirement.

"They are keen to see their beloved business pass to an ambitious and entrepreneurial new owner who can take it to the next level."

All fixtures and fittings are included in the sale – making it a turnkey business opportunity – along with a two-bedroom flat on the first and second floors of the period building.

According to Hilton Smythe, the traditional bakery, confectioners and takeaway is currently run and managed by the owners with the help of nine full-time and one part-time members of staff along with casual workers as required.

Town and borough councillor Singh's father took over the business from its previous owners more than two decades ago – and retained the traditional name of the bakers.

Councillor Singh originally trained to be a lawyer, and but for a family tragedy would probably not have followed his father into the business.
