Witness appeal: Warwickshire Police renew calls for information in incident

Police have renewed appeals for witnesses to a fatal crash after naming a 40-year-old cyclist who died on a dark country lane heading towards Atherstone.

Homeless Jason Dodd died as a result of a collision with a van near to the former Purley Chase Golf Club – despite the driver administering CPR at the scene before paramedics arrived.

Officers confirmed Mr Dodd was on a white mountain bike, travelling from the direction of Arden Forest Estate around 6am on Tuesday.

A 21-year-old Nuneaton man who was arrested following the collision has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Warwickshire Police is keen for information on where Mr Dodd, of no fixed abode, spent Monday night.

A force spokesman added: "Anyone who may have seen Jason as he rode on a white mountain bike from the direction of Arden Forest Estate along Ridge Lane or a white refrigerated Mercedes Sprinter van driving in the same direction before the collision occurred to please contact Warwickshire Police on 01926 415415 quoting incident 34 of February 4."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said despite their "best efforts nothing could be done to save the man".

Part of the road, at its junction with Pipers Lane, was closed off for a time during the initial police investigation.
