A group of Atherstone residents have announced plans well in advance to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Atherstone residents along with the rest of the UK will celebrate the Queen's 70th anniversary as monarch from Thursday, 2 June 2022 to Sunday, 5 June.

The 2022 May Bank Holiday has been moved to the Thursday with an additional bank holiday added on Friday 3 June.

A group of residents, many of whom were involved in the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, have already announced plans to mark the occasion with a free event in Atherstone Market Square during the extended four-day bank holiday next June.

A committee consisting of Ken Manger acting as chairman (past organiser of the Queens Jubilee event), Cllr Ray Jarvis (present North Warwickshire Mayor) as vice chair, Paula Manger as treasurer and Michelle Cheney as secretary has been formed.

They will be supported by Cllr Mejar Singh and Geoff Wilding.

More details will be announced in due course.
