LUV2DISCO JOCKS SOOTHED TOWNSFOLK DURING HEIGHT OF LOCKDOWN FEVER

NOW ONLINE RADIO STATION BORN OUT OF COVID-19 TO PLAY ON – FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS

DISC JOCKEYS who helped soothe fevered brows when Atherstone was at the height of 'lockdown loco' have called time on dancing in the streets.

Their doorstep challenge to residents to "throw some shapes" brought six weeks of relief to townsfolk unable to meet up with their families through coronavirus restrictions.

Luv2Disco DJs Karl Lyon and Ryan Nash brought their neighbours out for a social distancing boogie in North Street and Westwood Crescent.

And the Sunday blast turned into a Battle of the DJs to win the musical hearts of the town.

The final one at the weekend – as Prime Minister Boris Johnson has begun the process of easing Covid-19 lockdown measures – had the added impetus of a poll to decide the overall winner.

One forum voted for Karl's Team North Street to take the accolade but at 8.30pm the music stopped and Ryan's Team Westwood was declared top of the jocks.

And the message to the boys: "Amazing turnout from both Team Westwood and Team North Street.

"Thank you for the support you have given us over the last six weeks going through lockdown.

"And the real winners were the people of Atherstone being entertained."

Apart from the tussle between the artistes at the weekend, there was a second battle of the artists.

For youngsters in Westwood Crescent drew pictures of winning DJ Ryan.

One pencil drawing by 11-year-old Emilie made her neighbour have more than a passing resemblance to the Messiah while eight-year-old Paul and Harper, four, stuck to colour images of their hero behind the decks.

The DJs said the last 'dance on your doorstep' did not mean a total end to music for the town as their online radio station – an invention purely born out of the need to shake down the frustrations of being forced to 'stay at home' with unprecedented restrictions on our personal liberty as well coming to terms with the enormity of Covid deaths in the community – lives on.

Luv2Disco.radio12345.com – aiming to "relax our way out of this – will carry on a Friday night party with Ryan from 8pm-11pm and a Saturday nuight one with Karl at the same time.
