George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust was selected to be one of the first hospitals to start delivering the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine back in January 2021.

Now the hospital has begun rolling out the second dose of the vaccine.

Kerry Thompson, a nurse in ITU, was one of the first staff members to be vaccinated with their second dose.

Kerry said: "It's really important to ensure that you have two doses of the vaccine to give you longer lasting protection in order to protect yourself and your family and friends."

Chief Executive of George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, Glen Burley, said: "We're really proud of our staff who have come together from all over the Trust to provide a timely and safe vaccination programme.

"Every one of our vaccination team has played an integral part in the fight against Covid-19 by ensuring that our staff volunteers and local social care staff are vaccinated.

"I'd like to remind our local community that it's really important for everyone to take up the vaccine when it is offered but also not to drop our guard and to continue to follow social distancing guidelines and government advice.

"Even if you've had both doses of the vaccine you could still catch and spread Covid-19."

Further information about the Coronavirus vaccine can be found on the NHS website.
