Dolly Parton 9-5 cover version video warns Atherstone and district how not 'keeping your distance' comprises key workers during coronavirus
Nurses have adapted Dolly Parton's most famous song in a light-hearted video with a deadly message on social distancing as key workers warn Atherstone and district to "stop comprising" those trying to save their lives.
Five staff from Atherstone's main hospital have posted a one-minute film which reworks the Parton 9-5 classic and goes under the title Long Days.
Led by Helen Mayne and Julie Bates , George Eliot Hospital's Bobby Dazzlers introduce their rendition as attempting to "lighten the mood through Covid-19" before strutting their stuff to the music of the 74-year-old country singer.
But the lyrics from the Nuneaton hospital workers tell a different story, pointing to coronavirus being on the streets because "people ain't listening"
They carry on with a theme of urging local people to stop indoors and "wash your dirty hands", saying if the message isn't heeded then it will be a case of "spreading your germs if you don't stay at home".
And their final telling line on the damage it can do to key workers . . . "it's not fair for those who are comprised".
If you want be cheered up while also being chastised, then the video link is here.
On the same theme, Atherstone postie Katrina Stretton published her own social distancing guide to the her Royal Mail customers on social media.
She told Atherstone People's Forum: "Some of you may not be aware we are classed as key workers through these terrible times.
"And if things get worse your postie could be delivering healthcare products, food and even medication.
All that is asked from the public is:
1) Think about safety first, for yours and the postie; 2) If you see a postie coming towards your door please (DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR). We will sign your parcels and letters for you. We will leave the parcel, food or medication on your doorstep and then knock. Give the postie enough time to step away from the door; 3) If you are already outside your house, go inside or step away TWO metres from your postie. Please do not approach your postie; and 4) If we tell you to stop and back off or close your door, don't feel offended. We are only trying to help protect you from this virus. Let's beat it together.
