Meter long lizard found in rubbish heap in Birchley Heath

Whilst out picking litter in Birchley Heath a member of the public found a dead monitor lizard in a pile of rubbish on the side of the road.
The lizard was reported to police on December 28.
The lizard, 3ft in length, was abandoned in a pile of discarded rubbish on a grass verge.
A police spokesperson said "Whilst out litter picking, the conscientious member of the public found more than just litter at the side of Green Lane, Birchley Heath.
"Partially bagged, a deceased 3ft monitor lizard was found dumped on the grass verge."
Monitor lizards are carnivores and indigenous to Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Different species can vary in length from 8 inches to 10ft in the case of komodo dragons.
This particular lizard is believed to be a bosc lizard which are well known for being difficult animals to care for.
"Unfortunately the abandonment of such species are not unheard of in the UK, and the RSPCA welcome contact from any owner who is unsure who to turn to if they can no longer care for it."

The lizard was removed by Warwickshire Rural Crime Team officers and enquiries are ongoing.
"As these pets remain reasonably rare, someone may have information that may assist enquiries or indeed if you saw something suspicious at that location please contact Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting Police ref 184 of 28/12.
