UNSUNG HERO ADAM WORKMAN RIDES TO PENSIONER'S RESCUE AFTER DROPPING OFF FISH-AND-CHIP SUPPER

A GOOD Samaritan from an Atherstone fish and chip shop has been hailed a "local hero" after going to the aid of an elderly woman who had taken a bad fall at her home.

The Friendly Plaice driver Adam Workman heard the woman shouting for help as he dropped off a delivery from the popular firm's famous lockdown-beating suppers.

Mr Workman, brother of shop boss Danielle Stokes, went to the pensioner's family home to raise the alarm.

Daughter-in-law Trudy Hodgson said: "He drove to ours to alert us and even went back to her house and stayed while the door was kicked in to make sure she was okay."

The woman is still in hospital and was due to have an operation.

Mrs Hodgson posted a "huge thank-you" on social media as forum followers queued up to praise the unassuming hero.

Heather Taylor told Atherstone People's Forum: "Well done Friendly Plaice for being so caring", while Ros Lind added: "I do not know him, but by the sounds of it he has a heart of gold."

Joann McMurdo said: "It is brilliant to see, community looking after community."

Cheryl Fisher summed up the town's feelings on the Long Street business, adding: "Wonderful man, and the best fish shop too."

The Friendly Plaice is providing a tailor-made collect and delivery service for the town with a special app open early each morning and phone orders taken after 2pm on 01827 338596.

It's been so busy that last Monday the shop, which does not open on Sundays, did not have enough stock to open.

We realise these are unprecedented times and so we have taken the decision to allow all Atherstone and North Warwickshire businesses and organisations to advertise on Atherstone Nub News for free.

A Local Listing section has been specially adapted for coronavirus.

This will allow Atherstone and North Warwickshire businesses to tell the public what they are doing in this current crisis, whether they are still open and what changes they have made to their service.

We aim to promote these businesses and services as much as possible in Atherstone Nub News articles and on social media while this crisis continues. We want to keep you, the people of Atherstone and district, informed and help the local businesses.

Using our 'Nub It' button (link below) Atherstone and North Warwickshire businesses and services can enter their details (company picture/logo, website address, business phone number) on to our site.

While our primary function is to offer a news and features 'your town in your pocket' service to Atherstone and district, one of our principles is to support local businesses and the High Street.

To add your business/shop/service please click on this link atherstone.nub.news/directory and press the black 'Nub It' button:

It is very easy to do and takes very little time.

If you have friends or family that run local businesses, please make them aware of this service as they do the best they can to keep their business alive.

The more people this gets around, the more successful, informative and helpful it will be.
