Atherstone Town Council is currently inviting the town to call an election to fill a councillor vacancy in the Central Ward.

The town council has issued a notice stating that if ten members of the electorate write to call an election, then the position will be filled by a public vote.

If no such request is made then the council will fill the position by co-option.

This is the fourth and final vacancy that the council currently needs to fill; it comes as a result of the sad passing of Cllr Dawn Downes at the end of February.

An ATC statement said: "Notice is hereby given that a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Parish Council

"If by 9 April 2021 (14 days excluding Dies Non, after the date of this notice) a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by ten electors for the said Parish, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

"If an election is called, it will take place no later than 15th June 2021."

Two of the other vacancies are also in Central Ward and will be filled by election; the other vacancy falls in South Ward and will be filled by co-option.
