DAREDEVIL TRIO RAISE MORE THAN £1,300 IN SKYDIVE FOR WISHES4KIDS
NOW FIREFIGHTER CHELSIE GRIFFIN IS ALREADY PLANNING HER NEXT CHALLENGE BEFORE THE YEAR'S OUT
A DAREDEVIL trio of Atherstone coronavirus key workers have unlocked heaven's coffers to raise funds for a children's charity.
The virgin thrill-seekers – on-call firefighter Chelsie Griffin, her friend Racemeadow Primary Academy teacher Holly Clark, and Holly's dad Les, who works for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council – took on a tandem parachute jump at Hinton Skydiving Centre in Northamptonshire.
And their successful leap from 13,000ft up brought sponsorship money cascading down with them.
In total, the intrepid threesome raised £1,304 for wishes4kids.
Nub News revealed in July that they planned the challenge.
"We will cover around 1,000 feet every five seconds, travelling at 120 mph," explained
Chelsie, who spent the whole of July taking part in running the equivalent of five marathons in the sponsored 5,000km Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service challenge to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity, explained the three had been told the jump would involve them covering 1,000 feet every five seconds.
The parachute is normally deployed at 5,000 feet and with a landing in four minutes
She was already "terrified" of falling and, after completing the task, admitted: "When it came to it, I think it was lot scarier for all of us than we thought it would be."
After collecting their certificates, Chelsie was already talking about her next charity fundraiser.
"It will be back to the Firefighters charity for the next on," she added.
"We're just deciding what we can do based on Covid restrictions and hopefully we'll aim to complete it before the end of 2020."
