Member of Parliament for North Warwickshire, Craig Tracey has joined a group of Conservative politicians opposing proposed pay rises for MPs next year.
In a letter to Richard Lloyd OBE, Chair of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), 52 MPs including Mr Tracey presented their concerns over proposed pay rises for Members of Parliament.
The letter which was penned by Dehenna Davison (MP Bishop Auckland) says "at such a time, where the Government may be asking for restraint elsewhere, we believe it is neither appropriate nor justifiable to be awarding MPs pay rises."
IPSA are currently discussing a pay rise of over £3,000 for MPs which would take their annual salary to £85,291.
The government has already frozen pay for government ministers, however the salary for parliamentary members falls under the control of IPSA and not the UK Government.
The letter stated that "when so many of our constituents are facing uncertainty, it is only right that we shoulder that burden.
"As such, we sincerely hope that you will take the current circumstances into account and scrap the proposed pay rises for Members of Parliament."
The final decision is expected to be reached this month, and any pay changes would come into affect in April 2021.
The letter can be seen in full on Mr Tracey's Facebook page.
