Atherstone motorists face night-time closures of A5
FORTNIGHT OF TOTAL DISRUPTION BEGINS TONIGHT FROM MANCETTER ISLAND TO LONGABOUT AT THE REDGATE TURN
SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS WILL SEE COMPLETE RESURACING OF CARRIAGEWAY OVER NEXT THREE MONTHS
THREE months of roadworks begin tonight on the A5 which will impact on Atherstone motorists.
The scheme covers a 3.7 mile stretch of the A5 Watling Street between the Mancetter Island and Higham Roundabout.
The safety improvements will mean a complete resurfacing of the carriageway, including laying new road markings and anti-skid surfacing at junctions as well as vegetation and drainage clearance.
From Monday the A5 will be closed overnight for the next two weeks for resurfacing from Mancetter (Atherstone) Roundabout to the Longabout by the Redgate pub turn for resurfacing.
The carriageway will be closed to traffic from 8pm to 6am on Monday to Thursday, 8pm to 8am overnight on Friday, 7pm to 10am overnight on Saturday, and 7pm to 6am on Sunday night and into Monday morning.
The diversion route will be A5 to M42 J10-11 and A444.
A local diversion signed route will also be in place for non-motorway traffic via the B4114.
There will also be some planned daytime weekend road closures, although details are not currently available.
All the planned works – likely to last until October – are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
