Atherstone Pharmacy: No new presciption deliveries

Pharmacies in Atherstone and district have warned they cannot take on extra numbers for home delivery of medication as reaction to social distancing measures in the fight against coronavirus is starting to overwhelm them.

One town centre chemist told Nub News the Government's 'stay-at-home' advice was leaving an increasing number of people "in a very difficult situation" while another admitted prescription deliveries were not possible at the moment.

Atherstone Pharmacy said it is still managing to maintain its medicines-to-the-door service but is witnessing a huge increase in calls from the public – asking in particular for face masks, hand sanitiser and paracetamol.

A spokesman for the Long Street chemist said: "We are still delivering but cannot take on any new customers.

"Social distancing is having a big impact. With more and more people being asked to stay at home, it is making for a very difficult situation."

Warwickshire County Council has urged the public to help ease the pressure on pharmacies that are being overwhelmed by only calling "where appropriate".

Otherwise it suggests checking NHS Choices for other health advice.

The county council is also advising that If anyone has concerns about unsupported elderly residents with care and support needs who have to self-isolate because of coronavirus, please contact the Customer Service Centre on 01926 410410.

A spokesman added: "We also want to hear from residents who have concerns about homeless people in relation to conrnavirus by calling 01926 410410 or North Warwickshire Borough Council."
