Atherstone care worker: 'Stay Safe NHS' message from Izzy reminded me of grandkids I cannot see during this awful coronavirus crisis

BUS STOP DRAWING CHEERS UP HEALTH PROFESSIONAL, ROBBED BY COVID-19 OF 'PERSONAL TOUCH' OF HER FAMILY

IT'S a picture that paints a thousand words for the missing millions.

Impromptu art from a little girl called Izzy at a Mancetter bus stop has a message that will resonate with every health professional in the UK as the NHS faces its toughest challenge from coronavirus in its 72-year history.

For Atherstone care worker Sue Townsend the 'Stay Safe' missive sellotaped to the shelter was just the pick-me-up she needed on her way to starting her shift at a specialist dementia residential home in town.

Covid-19 lockdown has robbed Mrs Townsend, and millions more, of the 'personal touch' of their families and friends.

The care worker told Nub News that the drawing brought a tear to her eye and "made me very emotional to think that a little girl had gone to the trouble of doing it".

She added: "The picture reminded of my own grandchildren, who because of this awful coronavirus, I am unable to see in person at the moment."

Izzy's message of love and respect for what frontline workers are facing with the spread of coronavirus is being repeated in communities across Atherstone, its surrounding villages and beyond.

A display of rainbow artwork on police vehicles from youngsters in Appleby Magna has brought thanks from traffic officers while ambulance crews have been left "completely overwhelmed" by public support, donations, thank you notes and the #clapforourcarers campaign last week – and more pictures outside their stations.

As for that Mancetter bus stop, young Izzy may not have heard of Sixties' chart-toppers The Hollies – but they have a Top Ten hit called just that.

And it might be worth remembering some of the lyrics of the 1966 song.

When Covid-19 has run its course, perhaps we can all sing:

Came the sun

The ice was melting

No more sheltering now.
