VE75 Day: Neighbours 'feel the luv' as Atherstone DJ helps street meet each other again from a safe distance

Local News by Nick Hudson 9th May 2020

WESTWOOD CRESCENT PARTIES IN A 'MAKE-DO' SPIRIT OF FANCY DRESS AND FANCY CAKES

TOP JOCK Ryan Nash kept his street as well as the whole of Atherstone entertained with music of yesteryear on VE75 Day.

The Luv2Disco DJ brought the neighbours out for a social distancing soiree to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe for the allied forces of Britain and beyond.

Yesterday saw the sun, the smiles and a spirit of 'make do' as families were reduced to parties in the back garden or front garden community celebrations with a few tweaks to keep six feet apart.

Many chose the latter, and in Westwood Crescent they were entertained by Ryan while residents dressed their homes as well as themselves before enjoying afternoon teas and a beer or three.

Nub News revealed last week how enduring messages of hope from Dame Vera Lynn's wartime song list had helped inspire the birth of an online radio station for Atherstone as the town battles deadly Covid-19.

Luv2Disco has been around five years but the radio station of the same name – founded by DK Karl Lyon – is an invention purely born out of the need to shake down the frustrations of being forced to 'stay at home' with unprecedented restrictions on our personal liberty as well coming to terms with the enormity of Covid deaths in the community.

Luv2 jock Ryan Nash says the Luv2Disco.radio12345.com streaming station wants to "relax our way out of this", adding : "We are here to cheer people up and there is nothing like music to soothe people."

In another Nub News VE75 picture special, summing up the day, Westwood Crescent showed how it could recreate the spirit of Britain at the end of World War Two without breaking lockdown restrictions
