School may be out so far this summer in Atherstone but one at least is making sure pupils know how much they are missed during the Covid crisis

STAFF at a leading Atherstone primary school have told their stuck-at-home pupils they can “count on them” for support to get through the coronavirus crisis.

Teachers and assistants at Racemeadow Academy have produced a touching three-and-a-minute video which literally spells out how much the 300 children are “missed” but also how important it is to “stay safe” at home during this time.

The four to 11-year-olds should have been heading back to the Ratcliffe Road educational establishment this week for the start of summer term.

But while UK ministers contemplate how to unravel Covid-19 lockdown and get British industry as well as schoolchildren back to where they should be – the inventive Racemeadow team borrowed one of Bruno Mars’s most popular songs as a musical backdrop to their end-of-the-rainbow presentation.

The message, posted on Facebook, is that the school is “always here” for pupils and their families, signing off the video with “love” from everyone including Molly the school dog.

Bruno promises to ‘Count On Me’ while the staff break up the video into frames of a single word which fills the entire video.

Don't forget me: Molly the school dog

It reads: The - staff - at Racemeadow - Primary - Academy - hope - you’re - all - happy - and - well - and - staying - safe - at - home - always. Remember - we’re - here - for - you - and -your- family. We - miss -you - all - so - much - until -we -meet - again. Love - from - all - the - staff - and - Molly - our -school - dog - at - Racemeadow. Stay - safe.

Executive head teacher Jo Collinson, who introduces the video on Facebook thanking all the staff for taking part by sending photos and videos and to year 2 teacher Miss Ward for putting it all together, said: “Here is something from all of us to all of you.

“We are missing our Racemeadow children and their families more than ever."
