It has today (Thursday October 22) been announced that North Warwickshire Borough Council will receive nearly a quarter of a million pounds in Government funding to help support the local area during the pandemic.

The announcement comes from Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick who has confirmed £1 billion will be shared across local councils in the UK, to help support communities during the pandemic.

As well as the other district and borough councils in Warwickshire, North Warwickshire Borough Council will receive a large allocation. They will receive £250,101, whilst Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will get £639,810, and Warwickshire County Council over £3.5million.

The funding is part of a package designed to support local authorities, which will also allow councils to claim funding through a compensation scheme for lost income throughout the pandemic.

After the announcement, Robert Jenrick MP said "Since the start of the pandemic, we have backed local councils with the funding they need to support their communities, protect vital services and recover lost income.

"This extra £1 billion funding will ensure that councils have the resources that they need over the winter and continue to play an essential role on the front line of our response to the virus while protecting the most vulnerable and supporting local businesses."

The allocation of funding has been decided on the size of the local population, as well as the economic state of the area - this being said, every council will be allocated a minimum of £100,000.
