North Warwickshire Borough Council is carrying out a consultation on a new parking order for their off-street carparks.

An application has been made to the Department for Transport (DofT) by Warwickshire County Council (WCC) to implement Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) in the borough.

If CPE is granted, on street parking restrictions will be managed by WCC instead of the police.

The DofT require that both on street and off-street council car parks operate under the same conditions to ensure a consistent level of parking enforcement.

Leader of the Council Cllr David Wright said: "To manage and encourage turnover in the car parks, the council are proposing to introduce parking charges in some of them, however there will still be a period of free parking in every car park and blue badge holders will still be able to park for free.

"We are also looking to increase the number of parking spaces in those car parks which are suitable, to accommodate those cars displaced from on street areas."

Following the announcement by the government that there will be ban on the purchase of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, NWBC are also looking at providing electric vehicle charging points in some of their car parks, especially those near properties which do not have off street facilities and which cannot charge vehicles from their own property.

The proposed charges will provide a contribution towards the costs of managing, maintaining and improving the car parks and infrastructure.

Details of the proposed parking order may be viewed on line at www.northwarks.gov.uk. The details affecting each car park are also displayed at each one. Anyone wishing to view a hard copy of the order can make an appointment to see them at the Council offices by emailing [email protected]

The consultation will run from 8 to 29 July 2021 and can be found here.

Any comments are welcome and will be considered at the appropriate council board meeting.
