WEEKEND WATCH DOESN'T NEED TO GO IN SEARCH OF THE SUN – IT'S FOUND US

WHISTLESTOP LOOK AT WHAT'S IN STORE WEATHER WISE FOR THE NEXT FOUR DAYS

WELCOME to not so much a Friday Fourcast as a scorchcast – with our whistlestop look at the weather from Friday through to Monday.

If there's a late staycation on your agenda, then you've picked the right week to take a short break.

The weather's set fair until at least Thursday with temperatures soaring – rising appreciably on Monday to 27C and hitting 28C (that's 81F in old money) on Tuesday which looks like being the hottest of the month.

That 28C has some way to go to beating the all-time September 'high' of 35.6C, set on the second day of the month in 1906 at Bawtry in south Yorkshire (where else, as my great-uncle Jack always reckoned everything was "bigger and better" there ).

That temperature remains the hottest September temperature of any day in the UK and the eighth-hottest day overall in the 20th century.

Your Friday Fourcast is part of Atherstone Nub News bringing you a more localised weather service which you can access from our news platform at any time.

FRIDAY: Dry, warm with the sun competing with high cloud except around lunchtime when it thickens. Top temp, a welcome 19C.

SATURDAY: Rise and shine early as the best of the weather is before mid-day. Remaining dry but

SUNDAY: More the same today, a real lazy hazy Sunday with that temperature climbing to 22C. Barbie weather but remember the rule of six!

MONDAY: What a belter. Wall-to-wall sunshine from dawn til dusk and a gorgeous 27C (81F) . .. that's more like it.

And remember, whatever you've got planned and whether you're in Atherstone or picturesque Ambleside at the head of Lake Windermere this weekend, you're only a click away from the 'town in your pocket' at Nub News
