FAMILIES in Atherstone who have dined out on a “discount diet” for the last month are in for a new treat.
Getting 50 per cent off your meal courtesy of Chancellor Rishi Sunak may have come to an end but pubs and restaurants have vowed to keeping the offers rolling.
The Eat Out to Help Out scheme has proved so popular that hospitality outlets are continuing their own versions.
One definite starter is the popular Red Lion Hotel in Long Street which is running a fabulous £5 menu throughout the month of September.
Favorites such as small fish and chips, meat and vegetarian curries, American burgers and veggie bean varieties plus ham, egg and chips can be found at the bargain basement price alongside the existing menu.
The historic hotel, which is an old coaching inn dating back to the 16th century, has made more space available inside the premises for eating areas since lockdown was eased.
It took to social media this week to tell its customers: “As a thank-you all your support during August and previous months, we are running a £5 main course menu for September.”
Latest Treasury figures suggest more than 100 million meals – across 87,000 restaurants – have been claimed since the Eat Out to Help Out scheme was launched on August 3 offering a state-funded discount of 50 per cent on food and soft drinks between Mondays and Wednesdays. The scheme has brought in £522 million.
Meanwhile, Deliveroo is keeping the dinner party alive with a £5 discount on takeaway food in September.
Money-off discount codes will be available for each week of the month and can be used on takeaway orders of more than £20 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The offer follows the end of the Government's successful scheme offering half price meals out – up to £10 off – in August.
Wetherspoon's, Toby Carvery, Harvester and Pizza Hut are among the bigger chains either extending the discount or running their own offers throughout this month.
