Businesses across Warwickshire are working with North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) to find talented individuals to join their teams, as the economy starts to recover in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Recruitment drives are underway at companies including New Images Hair Design which is seeking to recruit an apprentice hairdresser for its Long Street salon in Atherstone.

NWSLC is currently advertising around 20 vacancies in the county for businesses looking to recruit apprentices in accounting, hairdressing, logistics, engineering, and hospitality based in Nuneaton, Atherstone, Market Bosworth and Coventry.

Katy Urwin, Director for Apprenticeships at NWSLC said, "There are signs of economic recovery within the regional markets we support. Forecasts suggest that the UK economy will grow by more than eight per cent this year, before returning to pre-pandemic levels of around six per cent in 2022. This is supported by the number of new vacancies we are being asked to help fill and represents a fantastic way for people of all ages to kickstart new careers and retrain in growth sectors after a challenging period.

"We know that the impact of the pandemic has been felt more strongly by younger workers and that is why we are pleased to be working with organisations across the region who are looking for fresh, new talent to support their recovery and growth.

"Colleges are leading the way to help reenergise the UK economy and NWSLC is in a great position to make links between organisations that need skills and individuals looking for work, whether they are starting out for the first time, retraining to follow a new direction, or seeking support following redundancy. It is our mission to introduce skilled and work-ready individuals to employers across the region."

NWSLC responded to the Government's 'Plan for Jobs' by launching its Community Skills Hub last year to provide access to all the information, advice and guidance that is available to support economic recovery following the coronavirus pandemic. The NWSLC Community Skills Hub offer includes:

· Bootcamps in software development and coding that will open the doors to vacancies through our dedicated Digital Skills Academy

· A wide range of apprenticeship opportunities with support to find vacancies and succeed in interviews · Pathways to the Kickstart job scheme for those at risk of long-term unemployment · Free Level 3 courses for adults in priority sectors through the Lifetime Skills Guarantee

· Free online short courses leading to Level 2 and 3 qualifications that help individuals to improve their skills or retrain

· Help with English and maths qualifications

· Ways to prepare for university and routes into higher-level study.
