Atherstone and the rest of north Warwickshire discovered earlier this week that they would exit the second national lockdown on 2 Dec in Tier Three 'Very High Alert.'

The new measures will see pubs and restaurants remain closed, and interactions between households restricted to public outdoor spaces, where the 'Rule of Six' will return.

Following the announcement, the Leader of North Warwickshire Borough Council Cllr David Wright has spoken out about the new measures to be imposed on the District.

Cllr Wright, said "We are very disappointed to be in this tier given that our infection rates are falling, and our hospitals are coping well. We have made this case very strongly to Government and will continue to do so.

"We are all desperate for more of our way of life to return to normal and we are disappointed that we remain subject to so many restrictions still.

"We will continue to support businesses forced to close and have given our 242 grants worth £376,000 already in this lockdown and there will be further funding for December for businesses having to close in December.

"Infection rates need to continue to fall, particularly amongst those aged over 60 where the risk of needing medical care is highest before the Government will move us to a lower tier.

"I am really grateful for everyone's efforts in getting infection rates down and it's still vital that we continue to keep to the guidance if we are to see some easing of restrictions in weeks to come.

"We must all continue to wash our hands, cover our face, keep our distance and get a test if we display symptoms."
